Botulium Toxin- Dyport ®
Dysport® is a purified protein which is used to treat and prevent wrinkles, fine lines and deep facial furrows. By working beneath the surface, Dysport helps reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes the skin to appear wrinkled or folded. Dysport is very similar to Botox - same duration, but kicks in a little quicker.
Dysport works by relaxing the overactive muscles of the face, in order to prevent the repetitive movements that lead to the development of wrinkles. By blocking overactivity of facial muscles, wrinkles are not only prevented from developing, but existing wrinkles improve.
Dyport® is commonly used to treat wrinkles of the forehead, in between the eye brows (Glabella), around the eyes (Crow's feet), nose (Bunny lines), downward turned corners of the mouth as well as for facial slimming. The effects can been seen in as little as 2 days after treatment, while full results are seen at 2 weeks. The results last on average between 3-4 months.
DYSPORT FAQ
WHAT IS DYSPORT? WHAT IS BOTOX? HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT?
Botox and Dysport are both used to treat and prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and deep facial furrows. By working beneath the surface, Botox and Dysport help reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes the skin to appear wrinkled or folded.
Dysport is very similar to Botox -same active ingredient, same mechanism of action, same duration, but Dysport kicks in a little quicker.
HOW DOES DYSPORT WORK?
Dysport is a neuromodulator that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. It’s the repetitious contraction of facial muscles that causes expression lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the neuromodulator relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the area.
WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE CAN BE TREATED WITH DYSPORT?
Dysport can be used to treat lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften dimpling of the chin, correct downturned corners of the mouth and elevate the tip of the nose. Dysport can also be injected into the muscles of the jaw for a jaw slimming effect.
IS DYSPORT PAINFUL?
Dysport treatments are quick with minimal discomfort. The treatment requires no anesthesia or recovery time. Many people get Botox during their lunch hours and are able to return to work right after their appointment.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
While the experience of each patient may differ, you may begin to notice changes after 48-36 hours, however full results can take up to 14 days.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
The results typically last between 3-4 months from the date of injection. Over time the body metabolizes the Botox, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treatment area. You can choose to maintain their results for longer periods by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.
WILL I NEED TIME TO RECOVER?
Small red bumps are noticeable for about 20 minutes following injections but then quickly dissipate like nothing happened. Bruising is possible but not common, plan 7 days ahead of any events/vacations.
WHEN SHOULD I START GETTING DYSPORT?
Some patients may wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’. There is no right or wrong age to start. Many millennials are starting in their twenties when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles or as a preventative measure.
IS DYSPORT SAFE?
Yes, Dysport is health Canada approved for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not receive treatment. Dysport is approved in 69 countries and has over 25 years of clinical experience worldwide.
SHOULD I DO ANYTHING TO PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?
If possible, a week before the treatment avoid consuming alcohol or taking medications or supplements that thin the blood like aspirin, ibuprofen, Gingko Biloba, or Ginseng. This will help minimize bruising after the procedure.
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?
Side effects from treatment are rare and may include bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness around the injection site, all of which will resolve without intervention after a few days to a week.
